Colour inspiration: Yarn Colour Boards

Do you love making pretty colourful projects but lack confidence with combining yarn colours? You're not alone! Crochet groups are full of people worried about combining colours. Colour choices can be stressful when you are in the yarn aisle and just want to fill your basket and get started

I have a solution: Yarn colour boards.

What could be easier than a little collage for inspiration with full details of the yarns you need?

I absolutely love experimenting with colours and will fill this blog with colour and colour boards to inspire you.

Neutrals are useful

Like many crafters, I really lacked confidence with colour when I started crocheting. I tended to stick to colour schemes that relied on black or white to separate colours.

A good colour scheme with black or white as a contrast colour can look amazing. The black really made colours 'pop' in my C2C blanket. This was a great project to use up partial skeins. The rows of black allowed me to combine colours that wouldn't work together otherwise.

It took a long time to trust my judgement and realise that I can pick complementary colours for beautiful blankets and projects. Not all colour schemes need a neutral so play with colours you love or take inspiration from nature.

The colour enhanced photo used in the colour board below shows The Wave in Arizona. Isn’t it amazing?

(I don’t know who took the photo so I’ve not been able to credit the photographer)

Where to learn more:

I'm sure I'm not the only one who wasn't taught to combine colours in school. As an adult, I've used great online resources to build my comfidence such as the free colour theory lessons from https://www.colormatters.com. If you want to know more, there are so many free colour theory lessons out there in different formats.
